Emergency lockout service in Long Island City

Locked out of your apartment, office or storefront? We are a few blocks away, not a call centre in another state.

15–30 minutes typical to your door · $89 – $185 — agreed before we start.

Included as standard

  • Non-destructive entry attempted first, on every job
  • Standard residential, office and storefront cylinders
  • Proof of residency or authorisation checked before we open anything
  • Full price confirmed before we dispatch and again at the door
  • Lock left working, or a replacement quoted on the spot

We pick before we drill

A lock that gets picked or bypassed costs you the callout and nothing else. A lock that gets drilled costs you the callout plus a new cylinder, and on a high-security door that difference can be two hundred dollars or more.

So the order of operations matters, and it is not the same everywhere. Plenty of operators drill first because it is fast and it sells a cylinder. We attempt non-destructive entry on every job, and we only move to drilling when the lock genuinely cannot be bypassed — which, on a standard LIC apartment door, is rare.

If drilling turns out to be the only route, you hear that before it happens, with the replacement cost attached.

What you should do while you wait

Stay by the door if it is safe to do so, and stay reachable — the tech will call from the street to find your entrance, which in a Hunters Point tower is not always obvious from the address.

Have ID ready that connects you to the address: a lease, a utility bill, a piece of mail, a delivery confirmation in your email. We are required to verify that you have the right to enter, and having something ready turns a five-minute conversation into a ten-second one.

If you are locked out of a building common door rather than your own unit, tell us in the message. That is often a management-company issue rather than a locksmith one, and we will say so rather than sending a van you did not need.

Why the price is a range and not a number

Two lockouts on the same street can genuinely differ. A standard pin-tumbler cylinder on a wooden apartment door is one job. A Medeco or Mul-T-Lock cylinder on a reinforced door with a secondary drop bar is another, and a storefront rolling gate with a padlock frozen by winter salt is a third.

What does not change is the sequence: you get a number up front based on what you describe, the tech confirms it at the door before touching the lock, and if what they find on arrival is different from what you described, they tell you the new number and you decide.

Nobody starts work on a quote you have not agreed to. If the price at the door is higher than the price you were given and you would rather not proceed, you owe us nothing.

Step by step

How this job goes

  1. 01

    You send a message

A person reads it — not a dispatcher three states away working from a script. Describe the door and you get a price range in the message.

  2. 02

    We give an honest ETA

15–30 minutes is typical inside Long Island City. If we are on a job and it will be longer, we say the longer number.

  3. 03

    Price confirmed at the door

The tech looks at the actual lock and confirms the cost before any tool comes out of the bag.

  4. 04

    Non-destructive entry

We pick, bypass or shim wherever the lock allows it, so you keep the hardware you already own.

  5. 05

You are in, and the lock still works

We test the lock with you before leaving. If the cylinder was already failing, you will hear that too.

Emergency Lockout Service — what people ask

How fast can you actually get to me in Long Island City?
Typically 15 to 30 minutes door to door inside LIC, because we dispatch from a storefront in Long Island City rather than from a call centre. Hunters Point and Court Square are usually at the fast end of that; Greenpoint and further into Astoria run toward the slower end. We do not quote anything under 15 minutes to anybody — door-to-door in Queens, that number is not achievable once you count the call, the load-out and parking, so quoting it just means breaking it.
Will you damage my lock or door?
Almost never. We attempt non-destructive entry — picking, bypassing or shimming — on every job, and the great majority of standard residential and office cylinders open that way. Drilling is a last resort, and if a lock genuinely requires it we tell you before we start, along with what the replacement cylinder will cost.
What do I need to prove it is my apartment?
Anything that ties you to the address: a lease, a photo ID with the address on it, a utility bill, mail with your name on it, or a delivery confirmation in your email. New York requires locksmiths to verify authorisation before opening a door, and it protects you as much as it protects us. If you have nothing on you, a building super or management contact who can vouch for you also works.
Do you charge more at 3am?
There is an after-hours component on overnight callouts, and it is quoted up front like everything else — you will never find it added at the door. Dispatch itself runs 24 hours; the storefront counter keeps daytime hours.
I am locked out of my car, not my apartment. Can you help?
Yes — car lockouts are a different tool kit but the same van. See car key replacement and automotive service for what that covers, including transponder keys and fob programming.
